Technical document search for manufacturing
In manufacturing the knowledge usually exists but cannot be found: the manual is in a folder, fault history is in another system, and the person who solved it last time is on leave. Zero-Shot builds search over maintenance instructions, machine manuals, fault records and quality procedures, with every answer tied to a document and a page.
What we build
- 01A technical document index separated by machine and line
- 02Similar-case search across fault history — what did this symptom turn out to be before
- 03Citations down to the manual page and diagram number
- 04A floor-usable interface: phone screen, short answer, source one tap away
- 05Multilingual archive support — manual in English, question in Turkish
How it runs
01
Machine inventory
Which machine has which manual at which revision. This list is usually completed properly for the first time here.
02
Make fault records readable
Free-text fault records are split into machine, symptom and resolution fields. This is where search earns its value.
03
Trial on the floor
The system runs on one line and one shift first, and we measure whether technicians actually use the answers.
04
Close gaps with documentation
The list of unanswered questions shows which manual is missing and which knowledge lives only in one person's head.
What we measure
- Share of questions returning the correct manual page
- Mean time to repair, before and after
- Share of floor questions that stay unanswered
- Number of manual revision mix-ups
- Uses per shift — a system nobody uses is not working
When this is the wrong fit
If manuals exist only on paper and no fault records are kept, there is no archive to read. Record-keeping discipline comes first; search is built on top of it.
Common questions
Manuals are in English and technicians ask in Turkish. Does that work?
Yes. A Turkish question can search English documents, the answer comes back in Turkish and the citation is shown in the source language. A translation of the quote is displayed alongside, but the source text is never altered.
Does it work in a plant with no internet access?
It can be deployed on a local server, in which case it runs on the factory network with no outbound connection. Model selection follows that constraint.
Our fault records are a mess — is it still worth it?
Partly. Similar-case search works poorly on messy records, but manual search still pays off. The usual order is: open manual search first, add case search as record-keeping improves.
